 Equal opportunities Policy.

Policy Statement:

As a registered childminder I will make sure that I actively promote equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice for all children. I will make sure I treat all children with equal concern and respect.  My setting is open to all children and families in my area.

Procedure:

I recognise and welcome all legislation and existing codes of practice produced by the appropriate commissions, for example the Equal Opportunities Commission.

All children in my care will be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. This will mean adapting activities to the child's ability and stage of development; providing additional resources.

I will treat children as individuals and with equal concern. I will always help children to feel good about themselves and others, by celebrating differences which make us all unique individuals.  I will challenge racist and discriminatory remarks, attitudes and behaviour from the children in your care and adults.  I will not discriminate against children on the grounds of sexual orientation, age, class, family status and HIV/Aids status.

I will encourage children in my care to learn more about their own culture and to find out about the culture and religions of other children. This will be done in a fun way through sharing books, colouring sheets, cooking and eating food from around the world and celebrating special festivals.

I will take into consideration the age and stage of development of each child when purchasing new toys/equipment and when planning activities/outings. I will adapt activities to accommodate the age and stage of development of the children.

The children will be able to play with all of the toys – I do not believe in boy's toys or girl's toys.

I am aware that some children may have additional needs and to be proactive in ensuring that appropriate action is taken when a child is identified as having additional needs or starts in my care. I will ensure I promote the welfare and development of the child in being sure to use a multi-disciplinary approach. Working in partnership with parents and other agencies.
